Discover the Lanes and North Laine

Brighton & Hove, East Sussex

The Lanes were originally the centre of the sleepy fishing village of Brighthelmstone.

Today the series of twisting alleyways are home to antique stores, jewellers and designer boutiques. The square on East Street is a great spot for a delicious al fresco meal accompanied by some live jazz.

Across the way in the North Laine is the bohemian quarter with more than 300 independent shops selling anything and everything from vegetarian shoes to African drums and vintage fashion. The North Laine is also home to vibrant street art. Look out for Banksy’s ‘Kissing Policeman’.

Or simply soak up the atmosphere by picking one of the independent cafés to sit and watch the world go by as you sip your drink.
