Explore the River Exe Estuary on two wheels and enjoy impressive estuary views.
Part of the National Cycle Network Route 2, the Exe Estuary Trail is a 26 mile route running on both sides of the estuary, with ferry links across the river. Suitable for all abilities, the route is mainly level and off-road, offering excellent views of the Exe Estuary and its wildlife reserves.
Passing through some beautiful riverside villages steeped in maritime history, there are plenty of opportunities to stop off along the route for some sightseeing or a spot of lunch to refuel. Located on the route, the Turf Locks is an ideal rest point with a large beer garden and fantastic estuary views – this is one of the few pubs in England that cannot be accessed by car!
A ferry between Starcross and Exmouth links the route together from Easter to October, plus a ferry crossing at Topsham makes it easy to tackle smaller sections of the route.
