‘Chocks away’ in Lincolnshire

Spilsby, East Lincolnshire

Discover East Lincolnshire's extensive aviation heritage and experience the sights, sounds and smells of wartime Britain.

For a genuine sense of what life was like in the RAF during World War II head to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, sited on an original wartime airfield.

Experience the vibrations, sounds and smells of a real Lancaster Bomber as you taxi across a real Bomber Command airfield, in front of an original control tower – the only place in Europe you can do this.

The original control tower has been restored to give you a true sense of an operational airfield, and the hangar houses extensive collections of wartime photographs. Look out for special events throughout the year from re-enactment dog fights to flying displays.

Nearby RAF Coningsby is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The Visitor Centre here provides the opportunity to see the historic aircraft at close quarters. There are many other attractions and heritage sites across the area just waiting to be discovered.
