From Alice to Potter, scout out Gloucester's famous film locations

Gloucester, Gloucestershire

Seek out Gloucester’s cathedral and docks to see why the city is becoming such a firm favourite with film and TV producers in Hollywood and the UK.

Film fans on a city break in Gloucester will delight in exploring Gloucester Cathedral, home to the hallowed corridors of Hogwarts from the ‘Harry Potter’ film series. The cathedral's sweeping Gothic architecture has also played host to the BBC's adaptation of Shakespeare's ‘Hollow Crown’ 2012 series (Jeremy Irons, Tom Hiddlestone) and the 2016 follow up (Benedict Cumberbatch). Damien Lewis also holds court as Henry VIII in the upcoming TV adaptation of Hilary Mantel's Booker Prize-winning ‘Wolf Hall’. Tours of the Cathedral start at the end of March.

Gloucester Docks and its perfectly preserved Victorian warehouses recently enjoyed a starring role in Disney's upcoming ‘Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass’ (Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska). Explore the museums, outlet shopping, Sunday markets and restaurants, all at Gloucester's Historic Docks.
