Hadrian's Wall Passport
Hadrian's Wall Passport
The Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail offers 84 miles of glorious walking through rugged moorland, rolling fields and dynamic urban landscape, and each year more than 8,000 people walk the trail from end-to-end. The Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site, spans the north of England from Ravenglass on the Cumbrian coast to South Shields in the North East.
Circular walks and shorter trails have been devised to cater for all abilities and take in many of the great sites and sights along the way. People can also use the AD122 Hadrian's Wall Country Bus service to help plan their walk along the National Trail.
The Hadrian's Wall Passport Scheme
The Passport scheme runs between the 1st of May and the 31st of October each year where and visitors who walk the whole length of the train can collect six stamps along the National Trail to qualify for the official completion badge and certificate. The badge and certificate are available at both ends of the Trail - Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend and The King's Arms Inn in Bowness-on-Solway.
The Passport Scheme is particularly relevant as the Romans were the first people to use passports. It is also the original passport scheme in the National Trail network and the only passport designed to encourage responsible walking practices during the dryer summer season by encouraging walkers to follow "Every Footstep Counts"- the World Heritage Site's own country code.
