In the business of buying and selling for generations

D

on’t let the footballer's wives persuade you otherwise. You don’t have to spend a pretty penny to find something unique to wear in the north’s coolest city

Not when the Manchester markets are buzzing with independent traders selling clothes, accessories, food and even art – all at affordable prices.

The place to pick up some funky clothes and accessories is the weekly Tib Street Fashion market or the new Vintage Market. Anna Dunstan at Retro Collective has some great original pieces from yesteryear, and the aptly named Mary Shears sells her own handmade bags and cushions at – Quite Contrary – Designs.

You’ll be the belle of the incredible Manchester nightlife-scene.But perhaps you’re planning a night in?

In that case head straight for the Arndale indoor market. Get Whales Fish to find you a perfect red mullet for your dinner, serve it up with fresh veggies from Strawberry Gardens, and follow with cheese from Hansfords – all decorated with flowers from the Piccadilly Gardens Flower Market.

Finish up with a pint of Ruby Tuesday from the Boggart Brewing Company’s micro bar –  the perfect start to a memorable night – whether you’re in or out.
