First-class food and drink
O
ne look at the tasty Medieval buildings in Faversham’s market square are enough to set your stomach rumbling.
There’s the mint green market building, umpteen shops selling delicious food and the peach-coloured café in the corner called – oddly enough – The Purple Peach.
This is a great place to sit outside and watch the world go by, while you wait for your homemade pork pie to arrive (try it, it’s delicious). There’s a regular Farmers’ Market here, too (held on Saturdays), and of course the Shepherd Neame Brewery nearby – where they’ve been making beer for over 800 years.
Of course, this being the ‘garden of England’, you’re in pole position to pick up some treats in the surrounding area as well, so why not nip along to Macknade Fine Foods on the outskirts of town, where you’ll find fine wines, cheeses, meats – and of course fruits.
And if you can’t wait until you get home to start sampling, you could always nip for a bite in the café here, the charcuterie platter is delicious…
