pending the weekend in the pub might not sound like the start of a ‘landmark’ weekend, but then, this is no ordinary pub. The New Inn in Peasenhall has been hosting weary travellers since the 15th century, when surrounding Suffolk was bustling with traders.

Nowadays it’s owned by the Landmark Trust, however, established in 1955 to rescue historical buildings from neglect – and give ordinary people like us the chance to stay in them.

The whole inn has been converted into several sets of rooms, which retain lots of the original interior – like the beamed, vaulted ceilings and a properly fancy double-height medieval hall, which gives the place a sense of grandeur.  The main bedroom is the most impressive room, with crown post ceilings in the main bedroom – hinting at the medieval great and good who’ve stayed here before.

You can stock your cosy kitchen with goodies from Emmet’s on Peasenhall’s only main street – but before you get stuck in, why not take time to explore the area. This area is awash with gorgeous villages, like Orford (fabulous fresh oysters), Framlingham (delicious local wine) and even the wide shingle beaches at Aldeburgh, Southwold or Dunwich. Not exactly your average pub session.
