Sending letters abroad
You can send mail weighing up to 2kg abroad by either airmail or surface mail. Airmail is quick and simple, whereas surface mail is cheaper but takes longer.
Delivery speed
Airmail
- Western Europe – mail usually arrives within 2 days of posting
- Eastern Europe – mail usually arrives within 3 days of posting
- Rest of the world – mail usually arrives within 4 days of posting
Surface mail
- Western Europe – mail usually arrives within 2 weeks of posting
- Eastern Europe – mail usually arrives within 4 weeks of posting
- Rest of the world – mail usually arrives within 8 weeks of posting
Customs
All postal packets (excluding letters) to destinations outside the European Union are liable to examination by customs authorities. Sending mail within England
Royal Mail is the official mail service in Britain. You can send mail within Britain either by first or second class mail. First class mail is faster and slightly more expensive than second class mail.
Delivery Speed
- First Class – mail usually arrives by the next working day
- Second Class – mail usually arrives within 3 working days
