Budget Days Out

A fun day out without the price tag

W

ho says you need to break the bank to have a great day out? Whatever you’re into, England has tons of exciting things to do that won’t require you to empty the contents of your wallet.

Free Museums

Take the hundreds of museums scattered all over the country, for example; whether you like vintage cars (try the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire), archaeology (visit London’s British Museum ), or even lawnmowers (yes, there is actually a museum in Newquay), you’ll find penny-friendly entrance fees and priceless exhibits.

What’s more, you can always do things under your own steam. If you’re planning a day out in London , why not ask at the tourist office for a walking map and try strolling (rather than a pricey black cab) to see the main attractions of the Houses of Parliament , Trafalgar Square and  Buckingham Palace ? You’ll be amazed how close to each other they are.

Oxford

And if you’re visiting Oxford , then how about taking a leaf out of the students’ book (let’s face it, they sure know how to save money) and hiring a bike to cycle along the river and between the historical colleges?

If it’s fresh air you’re after then grab a picnic and head to one of the beautiful green spaces. We’re not talking fussy, Champagne-and-olives affair, just rustle up a few cheese sarnies and find an old (but clean) blanket. You don’t even necessarily need to venture into the countryside (nice as that is); there are numerous parks and picnic hot spots within England’s towns and city centres.
