Meet a Second World War legend
E
ver wondered what it would be like to take part in the legendary Dambusters raids in Germany? Well, now’s your chance to imagine yourself as a World War II pilot by getting up close and personal with an Avro Lancaster, the classic workhorse of the Second World War.
Set up by Fred and Harold Panton to honour their brother who died in service, the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is home to Just Jane, one of the few remaining Lancaster heavy bombers in existence. As well as celebrating the iconic plane and the role it played in securing the Allied Victory, the museum also explores the history of the Bomber Command.
Being able to see the aircraft up close really brings the history to life and with her vast bomb bay and impressive wing span she’s also the perfect partner for that new screensaver. And if want to go one better than a photograph, this is also the only place in Europe where you can sit inside a Lancaster with all four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines booming away.
You’ll be whistling the Dambusters theme tune for weeks afterwards, guaranteed.
