One of the most picturesque rivers in the country
A
hh, the great British picnic: bringing people together over squashed sandwiches, leaky flasks and cold sausages since 1892 (ish).
If you fancy something slightly more romantic, though, try hopping aboard The Picnic Boat for a cruise on the River Dart.
Frank and Constance have been hosting family outings, romantic teas for two and friendly banter from the comfort of their all-weather vessel for the last three years. Putter along the water, past Agatha Christie’s old house – stopping to catch crabs or wave to Dartmouth’s resident basking seals – while helping yourselves to locally sourced seafood, continental cheeses and other treats.
The boat seats 12, but if you’re after something more intimate, you could always bag it to yourselves for an hour or two, and sip a complimentary bottle of Champagne as you drift along to the village of Dittisham.
After stretching your legs (or calling in at the Ferryboat Inn), the boat will pick you up for a spot of dessert on the way home. Yum.
