Classical music and mini sausage rolls
T
erry Wogan, a glass of Pimm’s and some top class musical entertainment. It doesn’t get much better than this on an early September evening. Proms in the Park is classical music minus the pomp – with the emphasis on witty banter and mini sausage rolls.
Grab a bunch of mates, pack a picnic and a bottle or two of fizz, and head down to Hyde Park in London for an evening of live performances from top British acts like Jools Holland and his big band – and opera star Lesley Garrett.
However, it’s not all about conventional classics; the 2010 show hosted big hitters like Queen’s Brian May, Abba tribute band Bjorn Again and Serpentine Fire – a tribute to Seventies funk band Earth, Wind & Fire.
And if you think that’s cool, wait til the final hour, when a live video link-up with the Albert Hall signals the start of much flag-waving and patriotic songs. The sight of all those Union Jacks is enough to bring a tear to your eye.
