aying out your tartan blankets and cucumber sarnies on the rocks of Polzeath feels like stepping straight into the pages of an Enid Blyton novel.
Jutting out into the Atlantic, this is a place of secluded coves, golden beaches and cliff-top walks, all ripe for adventure and getting into ‘scrapes’. Avoid too many lashings of ginger beer, though, if you want to go exploring.
The rugged headland around New Pozeath isn’t for the faint-hearted and even the Famous Five would have difficulty negotiating the slippery sand dunes at Daymer Bay. We bet they would have made a run for it across to Brea Hill, which you can walk to when the tide’s out. Be sure to head back to the mainland before sunset, though.
Polzeath (or The Rumps as it’s unflatteringly called by the local cheeky chaps) has the best views, especially if you want to watch the sun go down behind the horizon.
Very romantic and jolly good fun all round.
