At Dorset's Corfe Castle
E
very year on August 11th, Enid Blyton fans from across the world descend on the 1,000-year-old Corfe Castle in Dorset. Lashings of ginger beer all round please. It’d be rude not to really…
The enormous crumbling castle was the inspiration for the Kirrin Castle in the adventures of The Famous Five. And if you get your head out the picnic basket and look up you’ll see the Ginger Pop Wishing Chair sitting on top of Corfe Castle. How’d it get up there?
Soak up the atmosphere of fun and adventure at one of the most evocative and iconic castles in the land, complete with ‘murder holes’ and arrow slits and tales of treason and treachery round every corner.
Surrounding the epic ruins of the ancient castle will be a variety of fun and games to mark the occasion including storytelling, arts and crafts, lacrosse, Morse code and the old–school classroom skills of paper-plane making and rubber-and-ruler twanging.
So bring a blanket, get involved and go exploring among the nooks and crannies of this magical setting. And after you’ve foiled any evil schemes you come across, tuck into a scrumptious birthday cake and say three cheers to old Enid and Julian, Dick, Anne and George and Timmy the dog.
