Fancy making your own bow and arrow?
F
orget fancy firelighters and multi-tooled Swiss army knives, Norfolk’s resident ‘caveman’ Will Lord will teach you the long-forgotten skills of fashioning tools out of flints, making a bow and arrow – and even how to make deerskin clothes.
Growing up at Grimes Caves in Thetford Forest, the only Neolithic flint mine open to the public in Britain, Lord has been living the prehistoric life since childhood.
Nowadays he’s putting his knowledge and experience to good use, helping the rest of us master the skill of flint knapping (flint whatting?). You know, when you chisel away at the stone to create blades and tools that can be used for cooking and other useful stuff.
It was an essential skill back in prehistoric days – a bit like being able to tie your own shoelaces is today – and paved the way for civilisation to develop. Join one of Lord’s courses and you’ll become a dab hand at knocking up your own arrowheads and axe heads.
He’ll also show you how to do a double knot, if you ask nicely…
