For players of all ages and abilities
F
ormby has courses to suit all abilities – even those of us whose ‘strike rate’ is not always 100 per cent (ahem).
Even if you’re not always up to scratch, however, you’ll love the 135-acres of lakes, greens and bunkers(plus a fair few trees to bounce those balls off).
If you’re feeling confident, how about tackling the challenging 72-par Old Course – which is an established venue on the European Challenge Tour – or maybe trying out one of the country’s best PGA 9-hole links courses?
On the other hand, if your swing’s a little rusty, you could always book yourself in for a lesson or two at the UK’s first PGA National Residential Golf Academy. There are teaching bays in the weatherproof driving range, a dedicated short-game area (with five greens and seven bunkers), plus a swing analysis room with ball-tracking technology and bio-mechanics measuring equipment. Very fancy.
Alternatively, you could just pack the clubs away for the day and make the most of the gorgeous independent hotel – which has smart modern rooms and a rather fabulous spa.
Treat yourself to an invigorating massage and sauna, then put your feet up with a gin and tonic in the bar overlooking the Old Course. Suddenly your strike rate will seem a little less important.
