Wading, climbing and sometimes swimming...

C

umbria’s rivers, streams, pools and ponds have all got one thing in common: They’re cold. Not that you’ll mind, though, because you’ll be wearing a 7mm neoprene wetsuit. Bring it on!

Ghyll is the Cumbrian word for mountain stream, and the aim of this rather exhilarating game is to wade, climb, scramble and (sometimes) swim along them.

Yes, it’s cold, and yes, you’ll probably swallow some water, but who cares? You’ll be running through waterfalls, clambering over slippery rocks and stepping into freshwater pools that come up to your you-know-whats.

It’s fun, it’s exciting – and with expert guides on hand to help – it’s extremely safe. Plus it gives you license to spend the rest of the say soaking in a hot bath, back at Howe Keld B&B in Keswick. Now that we know you’ll enjoy.
