Woodland glades and Gyspy caravans
L
et’s face it, you don’t go camping and expect privacy. Unless you go to Blackberry Wood campsite, that is. Each tent is pitched in its own cosy garden glade, shaded from its neighbours by thick trees and green shrubs.
There are just 20 plots in total, each one unique: Mecca (east-facing) is the wildest and furthest away, while Wobble is on uneven ground (geddit?).
Even in your private patch, you’re not completely alone: the resident pheasants will probably pop by to pick at any scraps you left out overnight. That’s if the wild rabbits don’t get them first.
To preserve the peace and quiet, radios are banned but there’s plenty of entertainment to be had on the rope swing or in the local pub – depending on your age of course.
If you want fancy trying something a bit more challenging, why not hire a mountain bike at the on-site shop and take to the bridleways of the surrounding South Downs. After a day out in the fresh air you’ll be ready to stretch out round the fire while the sausages sizzle away.
