North East England

Old meets new in the prosperous North East. A former Sheffield steelworks in Yorkshire is now the cutting edge Magna Science Adventure Centre and Leeds' city squares and glassy skyscrapers now buzz with financial business. In NewcastleGateshead a renovated flourmill houses contemporary art at BALTIC and makes for a unique events space, as does nearby Durham Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can hold banquets behind medieval walls. Alternatively, head to York to dine in bishop's chambers next to York Minster. The region is all about the 'great outdoors' with endless dales and moors to ramble and under the clear night sky at Kielder Observatory ideas are bound to flow.
